Camera performance between HUAWEI P10 and iPhone 7 Plus

The portrait mode of the HUAWEI P10 has been very impressive which shows HUAWEI P10 has very excellent camera user experience. Is HUAWEI P10 still have such good camera performance when compared with iPhone 7 Plus, one has the similar camera function.

The function of the portrait mode is similar to that of the shallow depth of field, which both use the ISP to scan the image caught by the camera and deliver out a picture highlighting the portrait and blurring the background. But HUAWEI P10 and iPhone 7 Plus differ in the work mechanisms. HUAWEI P10 equips itself with the color camera focusing on the color rendition and the black-and-white camera of LEICA focusing on enhancing the catching of details, which is proved by the experiment. The two lenses have to work together in order to deliver high quality images, but only using the black-and-white camera is also possible to catch the image information and depth of field.

HUAWEI P10 has an F/2.2 aperture and HUAWEI P10 Plus has an F/1.8 aperture, they both have very outstanding performance under night environment. While the imaging mode of iPhone 7 Plus is absolutely different from it, because it has a long lens of 56mm in charge of shot and a shot lens of 28 mm in charge of recording the depth of field. While in order to realize the effect of depth of filed under the portrait mode, both lenses should be used.

HUAWEI P10 is smarter in the design of both the hardware and software. HUAWEI P10 has a convertible focus which is more suitable for portrait shot. And HUAWEI P10 supports the OIS technology which is different from that of iPhone 7 Plus. Besides, HUAWEI P10 has the face detection function which can more accurately capture the information of human face, and also supports the beautification function. Smart light compensation of HUAWEI P10 also enhances the imaging quality. While iPhone 7 Plus does not has the facial beautification function.

From the sample pictures taken under condition of enough light, HUAWEI P10 has a wide visual angle and is more suitable for half person portrait; and iPhone 7 Plus delivers very clear details of the image. Images of HUAWEI P10 look finer, while those of iPhone 7 Plus renders rightly the human skin.

While under weak light condition, HUAWEI P10 is definitely better in the details capture, noise points control than iPhone 7 Plus. Apparently, due to the OIS technology, the larger aperture and the prolonging of light exposure, HUAWEI P10 delivers far clearer and brighter images. What’s more, the color performance of the images in weak light condition of HUAWEI P10 is more satisfying.

Anyway, HUAWEI P10 has absolutely advantages in the camera performance under weak light condition. While the two behave both excellent under the day light condition. Generally HUAWEI P10 is considered to have much more balanced camera performance than iPhone 7 Plus.
